QNDMC, "Qui ne dit mot consent" is a french motto translated from latin, meaning "Silence is consenting".

"3—They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4—Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”

The Bible, Genesis, 11:3-4

These two verses of Genesis introduce the founding myth of the Tower of Babel. Once punished by the flood, the humans then gathered to build not only a city, or an ambitious and qualitative tower, but also the mental representation of a whole, a culture, an identity ready to withstand another devastation. The architecture, already 2000 years before being today synonymous with a profession or a university degree, was that of an enterprise whose causes and consequences exceed beyond the physicality of the built production. Through this biblical example, we can then understand architecture as the realisation of a FANTASY erected by means of bricks and mortar. Our temples, our churches, our monuments nowadays are merely the built traces of the hopes, fears and changing desires of men over the centuries".

Extract from the QNDMC #03 Fantasy editorial

Conception tool, or simple representation ? This third issue of QNDMC proposes to explore the nature, the place and the role of Fantasy within the architectural design process. Loyal to its editorial ambition, QNDMC aims to gather authors from different backgrounds in order to enrich the chosen thematic. Therefore, #03 Fantasy honors professional architects as well as students, researchers, designers and artists from France and abroad in a French-English hybrid edition.
